The Animal Health Strategy for Africa (2019-2035) provides a framework for delivering a sustainable animal health system in Africa that meets World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and other relevant global standards. It provides a common vision and goals for the African continent for the improvement of animal health delivery systems. It is aligned to global, continental and regional frameworks including the Agenda 2063, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Malabo/ Comprehensive African Agricultural Development Program (CAADP), Global Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance and the Livestock Development Strategy (LiDeSA). It is a call for African Union institutions, Regional Economic Communities (RECs) Member States and partners to adopt an integrated and holistic approach for the improvement of animal health systems in Africa, given the impact of animal diseases on the competitiveness of animal resources value chains, the increasing risk of emerging and re-emerging zoonotic diseases, climate change, inadequate environmental management and civil strife and conflict.en
