| dc.description.abstract | The FishGov2 initiative has played an important role in advancing fisheries governance, strengthening institutional capacity, and promoting the sustainable management and development of fisheries and aquatic resources. This book, FishGov2: Key Achievements and Remaining Priorities, presents an overview of the initiative’s major accomplishments, lessons learned, and outstanding challenges in improving fisheries governance and supporting sustainable livelihoods across the fisheries sector. It highlights progress in strengthening policy and regulatory frameworks, enhancing stakeholder participation, promoting regional cooperation, improving fisheries management practices, and supporting the development of sustainable and inclusive fisheries and aquaculture value chains. Particular attention is given to the engagement of governments, fisheries institutions, fishing communities, women, youth, and other relevant stakeholders in governance processes and decision-making. The book also examines persistent challenges, including institutional and financial constraints, limited enforcement of fisheries regulations, illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, inadequate data and information systems, climate change impacts, and barriers to equitable participation and benefit-sharing. Drawing on the experiences and outcomes of FishGov2, it identifies priority actions for consolidating achievements, addressing implementation gaps, strengthening institutional sustainability, and enhancing coordination among stakeholders. The book provides a foundation for informed policy dialogue, strategic planning, and future interventions aimed at building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable fisheries systems. Ultimately, it emphasizes the importance of translating governance reforms and project achievements into lasting institutional improvements, improved livelihoods, enhanced food and nutrition security, and the sustainable utilization of aquatic resources for present and future generations. | |
