Abstract
This document prepared at the request of IGAD suggests a comprehensive and holistic strategy to support and strengthen the camel sector of the five IGAD countries with a significant camel economy, which include Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, and Sudan. The draft strategy was validated with a cross-section of stakeholders in a hybrid meeting that took place on 21st December 2021 in Naivasha, Kenya. Comments by participants were integrated into the final version that is intended to be the basis for developing a range of proposals for carrying out integrated activities and interventions that will secure the region’s position as the global leader in camel husbandry and stewardship, building on its extensive cultural heritage related to the camel.
